I am new to the ukulele and I believe with this book and DVD I will be well on my way to becoming a musician. I have a cheap ukulele ($24.99 from a beginners kit) and swapped out the strings and tuned it. The book that came with my ukulele was really good and informative but I was thankful to find one that came with a DVD. I have watched part of the DVD and it is amazing - just what the beginner needs. I saw reviews that had said there was no menu and you just had to forward to the spot you wanted. The book does have a location number for each section that you can forward to on your DVD player but I do agree a menu would have been nice. As a beginner, I will need to watch the DVD and practice along in order so the jumping to different sections really is not an issue for me. I have learned some things here about music in general that I had not seen before in some of my beginner acoustic guitar books/DVD's. He covers a lot of strumming techniques and teaches about counting them out. Very informative, excellent resource for the beginner ukulele player. I am very thankful, very thankful to have found this! The instructor is amazing and knows how to connect with the non-musically inclined and teach about music. He has a sense of belief that comes across that absolutely anyone can pick up a ukulele, tune it, and play by watching his DVD. I believe him! A special thanks to the instructor for putting this together...I feel that this was meant just for me. Best Wishes!

I keep going back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. I settled on 4 because the book is doing what I wanted. I am learning the ukulele. The DVD is actually a great addition to the book. It is very helpful, especially since I haven't heard of at least half the songs in the book. That's why I was debating the lower rating. The songs are super old and not engaging to anyone close to my age. I'm 37, just in case you were wondering. The songs are not the types of songs that inspire one to want to play. It becomes tedious to work through. I'm not expecting Lady Gaga, Beyonce, or Adele, but something from this century would be nice, or something with a hawaiian/tropical feel. I'd take Margarita Ville or a 50's song. I give this book an enthusiastic A+.After examining several other beginner ukulele books it was refreshing to find this book which combines the benefits of several, all in one. Ideal for brand new beginners or for others (like me) who have more musical training, the information and instructions in this book can benefit all.I am currently teaching a class of 15 beginning ukulele players and am using the Table of Contents from Bert Casey's Ukulele Primer as the curriculum for my class. For the absolute beginner or someone wanting review (like me), the DVD is so easy to follow along. Everything is clearly explained. It's really like learning over the Internet, except I can stop and rewind (and i can afford these lessons). I think all beginners should start out with a good teacher. If you are doing that, this is a great book for getting acquainted with your instrument and getting comfortable before the first lesson. These are good songs that work at campfires or just casual meets. I have had so many instructional books over time. I'm really delighted with this one.

I am a complete music novice trying ukulele for the first time and purchased this book based on the reviews. I didn't find this book particularly helpful. It's not encouraging and doesn't make learning the ukulele enjoyable. I almost gave up after a day with this book but instead decided to give "21 ukulele songs in 6 Days" a try. Much better and made learning ukulele FUN!

The Witcher: House of Glass by Paul Tobin is a five-issue comic book story following everyone’s favorite Witcher Geralt of Rivia. I’ll be honest I bought this on a whim. Being a fan of the games I wanted to dive back deep into the adventures of Geralt. I can honestly say I am glad I bought this comic because it is well written and a joy to read.The story is begins with Geralt finding a hunter in the woods named Jakob. Geralt befriends Jakob and Jakob eventually tells Geralt his sad story of how he lost his wife Marta. However they face in endeavor stuck in the cursed House of Glass with Jakob’s dead wife and a Succubus named Vara. The story is pretty good in House of Glass. We are introduce to new characters Jakob a hunter haunted by his past and Vara a Succubus who happened to get stuck in the house of glass. The banter between Vara and Geralt is truly unique as she does come off as ambitious. Is she here to aid Jakob or Geralt or is she trying to get them killed? The foreshadowing towards the half of the comic is a dead give away to what will happen in the later part in the story and it’s done in a cliché fashion. It is an enjoyable story for Witcher fans if your not a fan franchise this comic is not for you as it can be confusing and it assumes you know how the world of the Witcher works.The art in this comic is simplistic and just done by the book some drawings look better than others. Joe Querio is the artist while he did drew the forest very well the house of glass itself was nothing special as it looks plain and generic, while trying to give off a “spooky” feeling. The characters are a mixed bag in some panels they look great and in others their faces aren’t even drawn or their backs are turned so you don’t see the face. It those short cuts that make the art fall flat. However to Querio’s credit he did mange to draw the essence of the Witcher franchise the signature violence and sex are all drawn here.In conclusion the Witcher: House of Glass is worth a read for fans of the franchise as it is really meant for them. It tells a well told yet short story that is entertaining and reeks of Witcherness. It was an enjoyable story and I am looking forward to the next comic book story being released.

As a fan of the book series, I was skeptical at first since it was done by a different author. With that being said, Tobin does a wonderful job of capturing the allure of the Witcher book series and Geralt as a character. However, the dialogue seemed a little strange for him at times, but not a huge fault. I wasn't a huge fan of the art style, but again, it wasn't bad and it did fit pretty well.

I really enjoyed this first collected volume of The Witcher comics; it has a compelling story and beautiful art. The art style will not appeal to everyone as it is quite expressionistic in style but I think it wonderfully accents the narrative. The story is simple but intriguing and forces you to keep reading to discover how everything fits together. As a fan of The Witcher video games, I also greatly appreciated learning more about Geralt of Rivia and The Witcher universe. If you have not played the games or read the books, however, you may find yourself a little lost since there is no exposition but the story can still be understood.

I'm a fan of The Witcher, so I was excited to see a graphic novel involving Geralt. The penciling of this book took me some time to get used to, as it seems different from what I'm used to seeing. However, the coloring is what made the images pop from scene to scene... so the experience wasn't too muddled. The book is broken up into five chapters, and the story starts off a little confusing. As with all stories, mysteries and loose ends are tied up (so-to-speak). It also seems that this book seems oriented toward readers who may be new to The Witcher. I'm hoping that the next volume jumps into the action more quickly, as Volume 1 was fairly slow going in the first four chapters.Overall, I still recommend this book. The story made me think about who the real monsters might be? Man or the actual monsters themselves?

Though not bad by any stretch, I just couldn't get as into the comic as I do the books/games. The story is nice, and I think it serves as an excellent, if limited, introduction to the Witcher universe. But not much else; the art, though sometimes great, felt, like the writing, generally uninspired. Definitely picks up by the end, but only really a recommendation if comics are your thing.

This is probably one of the best graphic novels I have read in my life. The story is very well driven with a good and satisfying twist to it. The art is fair, but this fact makes it fit better into the Witcher Universe. I was hooked on it since the first page. If you have read the Witcher novels and love the games, this will be a great addition to your collection. The Witcher: House of Glass has so much to offer, to fans of the series and to newcomers alike.

The comic is great . The story is good , it is excited , and the last part of the story took a dramatic turn , made me felt surprised . If you are a fans of the witcher , you must buy it ; If you are seeking a good story to read , I highly recommend you to read this comic book .

I bought this book with high hopes after reading reviews. My almost 5 year old refused to poop on the potty. She would only go in a pull up and after following suggestion after suggestion with no luck I was getting extremely discouraged. That's when I heard of this book and decided to purchase it.It started off ok. It went through explanations on what causes withholding in young children and the psychology behind it, and how to make your child get over their pooping fear. Sounds good, right? Where it completely lost me is when the author gives advice on how to get your child to be more compliant. He says to lock them in a room by themself until they are calm and willing to listen to your demands!! What!?! I follow the peaceful parent philosophy and while I am far from perfect at it, this advice is extreme and harmful. The author lost all credibility after reading that poor advice. I won't even get into his pushing of using repeated enemas on your young child.The reason I give this book a 2 and not a 1 is that reading it did give us the push to get our child fully trained. We did it by letting her where pullups while sitting on the toilet and having a jelly bean reward system (2 beans for trying on the toilet with pullup, 3 for trying without, and 5 for succeeding). After sticking with that for about a month, she is fully trained and we can finally kiss those pull ups goodbye!Bottom line is, book has some bad advice, some of which can be damaging, but managed to give us the push we needed to get her trained. Not worth the money.

I have a MUCH older child - one that happens to be on the spectrum - who is non-verbal and not always compliant. Although some parts in this book are ideas/processes that will not work for my son - it gave me insight on things I may not have considered previously. In reading this book - I knew that my son was more than likely "withholding" - but I did not realize some of the other characteristics, like being lethargic or mood swings could also be contributing to his behaviors and changes. With him non-verbal and unable to express how he is feeling - it's a guessing game. My son does not have the "fear" of the toilet bowl itself - but he does have insanely LARGE BM's that I think "how the heck did he even pass a thing of that size" - so the pain issue of his BM is def a concern and why he would withhold it. Yes, the book repeats itself (but that is how we learn and understand, but repetition so we understand the terminology and so forth)... Again, I can not use EVERYTHING in this book, but I can learn and alter some parts to help with my son. It is also a VERY quick read - I completed it in under 2 hours.

Such a helpful book, I wish I had found it sooner! My daughter had been withholding poop for 2 years her pediatrician was never any help just kept telling me "she'll poop, give her time." That is unacceptable advice when you're 2 old is crying and screaming for a week at a time because she has to poop but is too scared to do it. I tried google and couldn't find helpful information. I read this book and the term functional constipation eas used, suddenly I had a plethora of information from google once I had the correct terminology.Anyway 9 months later we followed the advice on the book and my daughter is no pooping without holding it, she's not crying about it for days. I'm now weaning her from the medicine to see of it is still needed. If you are having poop problems read this book!

This is the second time I’ve purchased this book -- we apparently seem to produce children who have trouble with constipation! :) I really feel like it should be required reading for pediatricians – it describes the problem so clearly and offers many other solutions beyond just adding more fiber and laxatives.As a working mom who has little time to spend reading, the thing I love most is that this book is short, concise and straightforward. It gets right to the problem and solutions using language that I (and my kids) actually understand. Dr. Tom has clearly worked with a LOT of kids with different constipation issues and while not every story or recommendation was applicable to my kids, there are enough different ideas that I could tailor them my children’s issues.For example, our now 8-yr old daughter had trouble with constipation that started at age 3 – HUGE, painful poops and going poop in her pants/skid marks. Our pediatrician kept recommending more fiber and liquid. But this didn’t work because she was withholding (I learned this in the book, not from the pediatrician). We adapted the incentive ideas and charts in the book and that worked well for her. Gave the book away a couple years ago to a friend with similar problems.Our second daughter is 4.5 years old and was recently constantly complaining about tummy aches and wouldn’t poop for multiple days in a row (but not soiling her pants). I have been resistant to using laxatives but I feel better about it after rereading the book and especially after discovering the dosage discussion in Chapter 20 (Ch 20 is written for Healthcare Providers but I think it’s one of the most useful chapters in the book). So far so good: no more tummy aches and pooping almost every day.This book isn’t going to instantly cure your kid (sorry!) but it’s a POSITIVE book that offers helpful education and actionable advice.(Other notes: our kids love Softy the Poop -- also a book by Dr. Tom but for kids! Dr. Tom also has a website which I’ve found useful – I haven’t done it but you can request a phone call with him on the site.)

During his descriptions of drills and principles, he often discusses common mistakes and how to identify them. One of the hardest parts of learning historical fencing, especially if you are not fortunate enough to have a nearby school, is trying to interpret techniques in a way that will have some martial viability. I suggest everybody read this no later than when their parents reach the age of 60. Assisting and caring for aging parents equals the challenge of raising children and sometimes extends for as many years. It is best to have a good overview before the need arises. Then you'll want to refer back to various chapter of the book (or perhaps a subsequent edition of it) as your parents' needs evolve. The strengths of this book are: Its breadth and depth of clearly presented information; the many quoted reflections by adult children caregivers, which are illuminating and touching; and the annotated links. I was disappointed about the lack of specifics on changing the diaper of a bedridden adult and strategies for safely moving an elder who is weak and unsteady on his/her feet. I also thought the frequent mention of "spending down" to achieve Medicaid eligibility should have more often been accompanied by warnings about the risks of long waits and sometimes poor services by providers that accept Medicaid reimbursement. Nevertheless I highly recommend this book.

Lots of great information. Some anecdotal stuff too. Reminds you you're not alone. Obviously not every piece of advice will fit every family, but it gives you lots to think about. I wish my brother would read it as well, but at least he's gotten some of the info second hand through me. We say among ourselves, you can't make this stuff up, and nobody writes a book to tell you how to do this, but here's a book that really is a great resource.

This is my third copy of this book. I have loaned out/given away my other 2 copies and never got them back. This book was sent to me when my father was diagnosed with cancer. I remember thinking at the time that I wish I had read this book about 6 months earlier. It has information about every aspect of eldercare from what signs and symptoms of maladies common in geriatric patients. Estate planning, end of life decisions, legal considerations, funeral planning, resources for long term care, cancer care, Alzheimer's and dementia, respite care for caregivers, and so much more practical information all in one place. A must for anyone with aging parents, and worth a read so you will be able to make things easier for those who will be caring for you in your old age. I have recommended this book to dozens of people over the years, including my financial planner who gives a copy to new clients. Another companion book to this one, also by Virginia Morris is a book called "Talking About Death" is an invaluable in depth look at end of life issues.

Very helpful. I highly recommend to everyone I know who is dealing with the many decisions involved in caring for aging parents. It calmed me down and took the stress out of all of the planning that needs to be done. It has checklists, resources, anecdotal experiences - and it is written from the perspective of a child who wants to do what is right. It’s not sterile or hyper-technical. It’s methodical and patient and comprehensive. At 640 pages, it is fully indexed, so you can just use it as an encyclopedia for the things you don’t know. I feel so much safer having this as avresource to do whatever I can for my parents, whom I dearly love.

Many people today find themselves in the uncomfortable (or essential) position of caring for an aging parent or parents. I was awe struck by my wife and her sisters and how they each took turns during the week and weekends during their parents senior years. No fuss, no muss. And no nursing home. For those not fortunate enough to have siblings nearby or who work well together, "How To care For Aging Parents' is a very good start to understand the many plans needed to care for aging parents. This is an essential book for anyone who cares or is about to care for a parent.

This book has some good basic advice. Maybe because I am a nurse and more aware of what is entailed in caring for people with disabilities, I was hoping for more.If you don't know where to start with figuring out how to care for your aging parents, this is a good book to use to begin the journey.

I have bought this book for at least 6 other friends. It covers every possible helpful thing you could imagine, from safety tips for your parent's home to going with them to the doctor, being their advocate when they can't keep all the facts straight.And throughout the book, the caregiver is encouraged to take care of themselves, to not get discouraged, to guard against the depression and anxiety that all of this causes. It is a serious thing to care for a parents and it is not easy.The lovely 'circle of life' is a nice idea, but in reality---yes, they did care for us as babies and now they need our help---but they aren't babies and they don't want to have to need help at all.They just want their life to go on as before, with their independence and autonomy.So we must anticipate their needs, be there to help, and recognize when we need to get outside help, because we just cannot do it all, and maintain our own lives, jobs and families as well as theirs.This book was an invaluable tool and resource for me.It's easy to read, look up just the topic you need at the time, in the table of contents or index, ---it does not require that you read it from cover to cover to get a lot out of it.

Lots of information for family members and caretakers. This book has given us a lot of insight and possibly some guidance for the future. It came in handy for my sister who is our mother’s caretaker.
