Very informative about the planning and building of the bridge and includes a lot of black and white photos taken during various building stages. Since I live in lower Michigan and have crossed the bridge several times on the way to Canada, I found this book very interesting. I first read it on my Kindle but then ordered it from Amazon in book form.

I just returned from vacation in Mackinaw City where I photographed the bridge from various angles, from both the lakes and the southern shore. The guided boat tour under the bridge was narrated by the book's author Mike Fornes. A fascinating bridge, and a very interesting book covering it's history and construction. Mike Fornes is very knowledgeable and informative.

Excellent text on the birth and history of the Mackinac Bridge. The author's deep admiration for the bridge, and for those who designed, built and maintain it, shows through in the abundant photos and interesting stories he relates.A "must-read" for any fan of the "Mighty Mac."

This was an interesting book on the history of this remarkable feat. The engineering that went into this is truly awesome as was the work of the men who built the structure. And the historical pics are great.

In other words, she is completely relatable even though she’s in an impossible situation.I’ve never read Center before, but a quick Google search shows that she has authored many books and is quite popular. If this book is indication, then I can see why. How to Walk Away is, for lack of a better phrase, hard to walk away from and Margaret will stay with me for a long time.

If you have not read a book by Katherine Center, I highly recommend that you don't delay!! I am on my third book by her and can hardly put it down to get my chores done.Normally a chapter a day is my habit. But, I zipped right through "How to Walk Away" and enjoyed every minute -- full of real life struggles, disappointments, and pure joy. Next I read "Happiness for Beginners" in two days and it was just as good or better. Half way through the "Bright Side of Disaster" promises to be just as good.Thank you Katherine.

Fairly accurate account of what a typical spinal cord injury may go through with out being very specific on where the injury occurred (Im an Occupational Therapist). And it’s not a sad sob story unrealistic tale where the heroine defies all odds and runs into the sunset.It’s about personal weaknesses and strengths and what really matters in life. Makes you remember that perfect is not always good or right.

I went into this book not knowing what to expect since I have never read anything by this author and honestly not even 100% sure I would like it! But I loved it! I loved the main character and how she was a little bit snarky and a little bit funny. For sure there were some great one liners that made me laugh out loud!And while the MC went through something devastating and had to learn to live again and be happy she did it with determination!The one part of the story that was a real draw for me and kept me hooked is the dynamic between family members. This is just a great "turn life around", feel good story and I would highly recommend it to anyone! I will definitely check out the authors other works.

Gosh, Maggie Jacobsen is just such a likeable character. Despite the fact that I knew pretty much where Maggie was going to end up, I certainly enjoyed the ride because she was such an entertaining character to get to know. My one criticism would be of the character of Maggie's fiance Chip - he felt flat and one dimensional."You have to find the inspiration in struggle, and pull joy out of hardship."

Firstly, I can appreciate how much work and research must have gone into writing this book. From a physical and medical stand point, it seemed legit. The plot, dialogue and character developments, I felt, were completely lacking. No chemistry between the love interests, no build up or development of any of those relationships... which was unfortunate since that seemed to be the major backbone of the book. I just couldn’t connect with any character. Further, what I assumed to be a major plot twist didn’t shock me, instead it just happened in a very underwhelming way. I really wanted to love this book as the book summary sounded very promising and I hadn’t read anything similar to my knowledge but I couldn’t get in to it. I ended up skipping over long dialogues that didn’t really seem to serve a purpose and did the same with descriptive paragraphs. I read it in one night and felt pretty underwhelmed, unfortunately. This had so much promise but fell so flat for me. The stars I gave are solely for the trouble the author took in researching the medical data and therapy treatments. It was clear she was very thorough.

I picked up this book because I was lucky enough to meet the author right after she had finished a book signing event nearby. I was captivated and ordered this book. I am so delighted I did. This book sends you on a compassionate journey about life tragedies and how to survive and thrive. This is a must read. Thanks Katherine Center

This is a good book on man tracking. What you need to realize though is that it is the same book as Diaz's "Tracking Signs of Man, Signs of Hope." There are a few different illustrations, and some new info in the appendices, but if you've got the previous book, you've also got most of what is in this one.

During my initial skim, I can tell that the author know his stuff, though the presentation is lacking. It's heavy on the conversational/storytelling writing style which is indicative of a first time author. Unfortunately teaching an art like tracking is an art within itself and can to a large extent can only be advanced through practice. Probably better off looking for military manaul or other free reference for self study.

No nonsense reading. Perfect book for anyone looking to learn tracking skills. Have been LEO tracking team for 10 years and learned more in the book than my first few years on team. Highly recommended.

This is an outstanding rendition on tracking humans. If you are interested in the subject of tracking in general, this is a must buy for your library. In addition to the standard background on the field, there is handy information on homework to develop one's human tracking skills. There is also excellent information on dating a track and scene based on the aging of cadavers. All in all an excellent resource to grow with.

There is no substitute for time in the dirt, for this almost lost skill set.

What a book. The story packs a punch!! It is certainly not dated even though written in 1928 (story takes place in 1925 Shanghai). Written by a Japanese writer with a very modern voice. It is an "outsider" type novel in all respects. Japanese in China; Japanese alienated from Japanese, Japanese alienated from Chinese, Japanese alienated from time and place. It helps to be aware of sino-Japanese politics and economy tied to the period, but not essential. Very stark story in which the Japanese protagonist expresses the need for China to ally with Japan in a political and economic sense as opposed to allying with the Western powers, yet his contempt for the Chinese underlies his emotional response to circumstances involving the Chinese. He falls in love with a Chinese revoluntionary which comes to nothing. I recommend this excellent book unreservedly. Also has a short piece on the author which showcases his philosophy and life.

True to its title "But Enough About Me" Burt Reynolds doesn't divulge too much about himself in his book. It has tid bits here and there about his family particularly his strict father who was in the military before becoming the chief of police of a small town in southern Florida near Miami and Burt's desire to make his father proud of his son "Buddy" as he was then called. For the longest time, his father didn't think acting was a "real" job. He also writes about his school years and his love of sports growing up, his years acting on stage and his stunt work before and after becoming a move actor.I would not call this book a true memoir since the author chose to write mostly about people that he has encountered in his life, some in his personal life but mostly in his professional life and how some of them effected him. He actually has whole chapters devoted to each person that he chose to write about. I found some of the chapters really interesting, particularly the chapter on Dinah Shore (they had a romantic relationship for several years) but they never made it to the altar. He speaks of Dinah in a warm and loving way and what a great person she was, was loved by everyone, what a wonderful cook she was and would cook for anyone at all hours of the day and night.I also found interesting the chapter on Sally Field, how he insisted to have her in the movie "Smokey and the Bandit" since he thought she would be perfect for the part even though at first Universal didn't want to use her because the studio didn't think she was "sexy enough" (she had previously played The Flying Nun in her own TV sitcom) and how much sexual chemistry they had with each other from the day they met at rehearsal. They ended up becoming an item for a few years and making several movies together. The biggest surprise for me was that he writes in his book that he wishes he could turn back the clock, that he's sorry he never told her he loved her and he's sorry they couldn't make their relationship work. They spoke about marriage, but one wasn't ready when the other one was and vice versa. According to Burt, it's the biggest regret of his life.There's also an interesting chapter on his ex-wife Loni Anderson. They were married for only five years. In this book Burt writes that he doesn't even know why he married her as they are very different from each other and admits that he wasn't thinking at the time and that she was the aggressive type, she came on to him and was very determined to get him. But he writes he had his doubts about her even before he made the marital commitment. He portrays her as being money hungry and spent a lot of his money during their short lived marriage (while married to each other they adopted a baby boy, Quinton). He regrets not listening to the others' advise and his own gut instinct not to marry her.There are also other interesting chapters on Spencer Tracy, Bette Davis, Roy Rogers, Frank Sinatra and Clint Eastwood just to name a few. He also writes that he regrets posing nude in the magazine "Cosmopolitan" centerfold since he feels it affected his acting career in a negative way as he wanted to be considered "a serious actor", he wishes he would have listened to people that advised him against doing it. There's also an interesting foreword written by his friend Jon Voight (Burt met Jon while making the movie Deliverance and writes in this book some really interesting things about making that movie). So, he has a few regrets (don't we all) but has lived a very full and interesting life! If you like to read about Hollywood and its stars, you will enjoy this book!

You get the Real Burt Reynolds here. All his mistakes, all his goofiness, all his kindness, all this successes and failures. This book is like you're sitting around a patio in Florida and Reynolds is just telling his story. Sometimes I wish he'd told more about some people in his life, but maybe he had to edit for length.How a Florida jock became an actor was a very good story. And how he occasionally shot himself out of the saddle adds depth. His loves and his need to find acceptance are quite touching.I recommend this book. But it's a quarter to three a.m. and I just finished. Don't start this book if you have somewhere to be; at places it's hard to put down.

When I read that Burt Reynolds died, I was saddened by the thought that I grew up with him and now he was gone. Anyway, I looked around to see what I could read about him and saw that he released a book in 2015. This book is a wealth of information about his life as a troublemaker in high school and his ascendancy to the top of the box office as an actor.This book is a great read because it's like having Reynolds talk to you in his backyard about his life from childhood to age 78 or 79 when he co-wrote the book. He lived for another 3 years before he passed away 2 weeks ago.His movies were not the most cerebral. Like he said in the book, he liked to have fun and that's what he wanted in life and it showed.I saw Smokey and the Bandit again a week ago and boy, I remember the fun I had seeing it as a younger man! I wanted to be like him!All in all, Burt's life was the stuff of legend. Not many guys can brag like Reynolds did and not get called on their stories. However, Burt did all that he wrote in the book and it was all true. What a guy!Rest in Peace, Buddy!

Mr. Reynolds is a great story teller, I've seen him on countless talk shows over the years talking about various friends in the entertainment industry and sharing anecdotes about filming on location.The fact that his career bridges the older generation of "Movie Stars" - with capital M and S - as well as his own generation of stars and then those that came even later gives him a rare perspective. This book provides some great stories but at the same time it seems to be just sort of hitting the highlights with not much depth. I'm not referring to salacious or scandalous material, it just seems that so many long time friends of Burt Reynolds's, like Dom Deluise, Charles Durning, and others are given a few quick pages then left behind. I realize you can't cover everything but at times the information seems a bit thin.My only real negative critique is the way Loni Anderson is treated in this book. Mr. Reynolds seems more than a little mean spirited towards her... I get it. Bad breakups are tough to get past but I almost wish he would have just made a brief blanket statement along the lines of "Loni has her version, I have mine, they differ greatly. Enough said."Bottom line: Burt Reynolds shares some fun stories about his career and a few of his famous friends. It's kind of like having a chance conversation with someone on a long trip, you end up hearing things you probably didn't expect to hear but nothing particularly shocking or too in depth. Recommended for any fan of Burt Reynolds.

Not all of his reactions are "love letters", which lends a sense of authenticity to his observations.Readers interested in the art of acting in movies, television, and theater, will enjoy Reynolds' comments as a professional who has been highly successful and is a generous teacher.When you read a memoir that leaves you feeling as though you have had a great conversation with the author-that is the essence of a fine book.

I really enjoyed it. If I did any nit-picking that would be personal opinion that another reader might completely disagree with. I would like to see many other books in the Echo Rose series. Thomas Fincham has an amazing imagination. His other books are great reads as well.

It kept my interest through out the entire set. I also read the set before it and the one after it. All three sets keep you guessing until the last few chapters. All of the pieces start to fall into place at that point.

The Echo Rose Series were well written as are all of Thomas Fincham's books! They are suspenseful, clear, and have everything a good book should have.Way to go!

This author kept me guessing the entire book. Missed two days of houseworkbecause I couldn't stop reading.I enjoyed the Malone series the best because the main character may have goneto prison. , but the reason for his actions were easily understandable.Most readers can relate. In the Echo Rose series, readers quickly bond with his main character, who doesn't always follow the law, but ALWAYS gets the bad guy.With the Echo Rose series, the reader mat observe as Fincham intertwines his novel, writingat a higher, more developed level....keep writing.

I hate hate hate that we are only allowed to select ONE word on these reviews, I want to select every word when it comes to this set... Twists, full of surprises, it was also hopeful, suspenseful, steady and fast, developed and complex! All three books were well written, I lived how all the loose ends were tied up... I just love the way the author makes you connect with the characters so quickly, I got the set and have read back to back with only a little break today to do my very first blog entry...I loved the set... Thanks for allowing me to read your work, Mr. Fincham, I am honored and really, YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I received an ARC for each of The Rose books and I voluntarily choose to read and leave this review for all three books.The Echo Rose books fast easy reads rich in plot and action. She starts as a reporter that quickly gets her in dangerous trouble.Rose does not realize her limits and plunges into conflict without second thought to her life.Her optimism is refreshing to read as this reader sometimes reads faster to see if Rose will survive.The ending for book 3 gives the reader a glimpse of what may happen to Rose in book 4.
