The Witcher: House of Glass by Paul Tobin is a five-issue comic book story following everyone’s favorite Witcher Geralt of Rivia. I’ll be honest I bought this on a whim. Being a fan of the games I wanted to dive back deep into the adventures of Geralt. I can honestly say I am glad I bought this comic because it is well written and a joy to read.The story is begins with Geralt finding a hunter in the woods named Jakob. Geralt befriends Jakob and Jakob eventually tells Geralt his sad story of how he lost his wife Marta. However they face in endeavor stuck in the cursed House of Glass with Jakob’s dead wife and a Succubus named Vara. The story is pretty good in House of Glass. We are introduce to new characters Jakob a hunter haunted by his past and Vara a Succubus who happened to get stuck in the house of glass. The banter between Vara and Geralt is truly unique as she does come off as ambitious. Is she here to aid Jakob or Geralt or is she trying to get them killed? The foreshadowing towards the half of the comic is a dead give away to what will happen in the later part in the story and it’s done in a cliché fashion. It is an enjoyable story for Witcher fans if your not a fan franchise this comic is not for you as it can be confusing and it assumes you know how the world of the Witcher works.The art in this comic is simplistic and just done by the book some drawings look better than others. Joe Querio is the artist while he did drew the forest very well the house of glass itself was nothing special as it looks plain and generic, while trying to give off a “spooky” feeling. The characters are a mixed bag in some panels they look great and in others their faces aren’t even drawn or their backs are turned so you don’t see the face. It those short cuts that make the art fall flat. However to Querio’s credit he did mange to draw the essence of the Witcher franchise the signature violence and sex are all drawn here.In conclusion the Witcher: House of Glass is worth a read for fans of the franchise as it is really meant for them. It tells a well told yet short story that is entertaining and reeks of Witcherness. It was an enjoyable story and I am looking forward to the next comic book story being released.

As a fan of the book series, I was skeptical at first since it was done by a different author. With that being said, Tobin does a wonderful job of capturing the allure of the Witcher book series and Geralt as a character. However, the dialogue seemed a little strange for him at times, but not a huge fault. I wasn't a huge fan of the art style, but again, it wasn't bad and it did fit pretty well.

I really enjoyed this first collected volume of The Witcher comics; it has a compelling story and beautiful art. The art style will not appeal to everyone as it is quite expressionistic in style but I think it wonderfully accents the narrative. The story is simple but intriguing and forces you to keep reading to discover how everything fits together. As a fan of The Witcher video games, I also greatly appreciated learning more about Geralt of Rivia and The Witcher universe. If you have not played the games or read the books, however, you may find yourself a little lost since there is no exposition but the story can still be understood.

I'm a fan of The Witcher, so I was excited to see a graphic novel involving Geralt. The penciling of this book took me some time to get used to, as it seems different from what I'm used to seeing. However, the coloring is what made the images pop from scene to scene... so the experience wasn't too muddled. The book is broken up into five chapters, and the story starts off a little confusing. As with all stories, mysteries and loose ends are tied up (so-to-speak). It also seems that this book seems oriented toward readers who may be new to The Witcher. I'm hoping that the next volume jumps into the action more quickly, as Volume 1 was fairly slow going in the first four chapters.Overall, I still recommend this book. The story made me think about who the real monsters might be? Man or the actual monsters themselves?

Though not bad by any stretch, I just couldn't get as into the comic as I do the books/games. The story is nice, and I think it serves as an excellent, if limited, introduction to the Witcher universe. But not much else; the art, though sometimes great, felt, like the writing, generally uninspired. Definitely picks up by the end, but only really a recommendation if comics are your thing.

This is probably one of the best graphic novels I have read in my life. The story is very well driven with a good and satisfying twist to it. The art is fair, but this fact makes it fit better into the Witcher Universe. I was hooked on it since the first page. If you have read the Witcher novels and love the games, this will be a great addition to your collection. The Witcher: House of Glass has so much to offer, to fans of the series and to newcomers alike.

The comic is great . The story is good , it is excited , and the last part of the story took a dramatic turn , made me felt surprised . If you are a fans of the witcher , you must buy it ; If you are seeking a good story to read , I highly recommend you to read this comic book .

I bought this book with high hopes after reading reviews. My almost 5 year old refused to poop on the potty. She would only go in a pull up and after following suggestion after suggestion with no luck I was getting extremely discouraged. That's when I heard of this book and decided to purchase it.It started off ok. It went through explanations on what causes withholding in young children and the psychology behind it, and how to make your child get over their pooping fear. Sounds good, right? Where it completely lost me is when the author gives advice on how to get your child to be more compliant. He says to lock them in a room by themself until they are calm and willing to listen to your demands!! What!?! I follow the peaceful parent philosophy and while I am far from perfect at it, this advice is extreme and harmful. The author lost all credibility after reading that poor advice. I won't even get into his pushing of using repeated enemas on your young child.The reason I give this book a 2 and not a 1 is that reading it did give us the push to get our child fully trained. We did it by letting her where pullups while sitting on the toilet and having a jelly bean reward system (2 beans for trying on the toilet with pullup, 3 for trying without, and 5 for succeeding). After sticking with that for about a month, she is fully trained and we can finally kiss those pull ups goodbye!Bottom line is, book has some bad advice, some of which can be damaging, but managed to give us the push we needed to get her trained. Not worth the money.

I have a MUCH older child - one that happens to be on the spectrum - who is non-verbal and not always compliant. Although some parts in this book are ideas/processes that will not work for my son - it gave me insight on things I may not have considered previously. In reading this book - I knew that my son was more than likely "withholding" - but I did not realize some of the other characteristics, like being lethargic or mood swings could also be contributing to his behaviors and changes. With him non-verbal and unable to express how he is feeling - it's a guessing game. My son does not have the "fear" of the toilet bowl itself - but he does have insanely LARGE BM's that I think "how the heck did he even pass a thing of that size" - so the pain issue of his BM is def a concern and why he would withhold it. Yes, the book repeats itself (but that is how we learn and understand, but repetition so we understand the terminology and so forth)... Again, I can not use EVERYTHING in this book, but I can learn and alter some parts to help with my son. It is also a VERY quick read - I completed it in under 2 hours.

Such a helpful book, I wish I had found it sooner! My daughter had been withholding poop for 2 years her pediatrician was never any help just kept telling me "she'll poop, give her time." That is unacceptable advice when you're 2 old is crying and screaming for a week at a time because she has to poop but is too scared to do it. I tried google and couldn't find helpful information. I read this book and the term functional constipation eas used, suddenly I had a plethora of information from google once I had the correct terminology.Anyway 9 months later we followed the advice on the book and my daughter is no pooping without holding it, she's not crying about it for days. I'm now weaning her from the medicine to see of it is still needed. If you are having poop problems read this book!

This is the second time I’ve purchased this book -- we apparently seem to produce children who have trouble with constipation! :) I really feel like it should be required reading for pediatricians – it describes the problem so clearly and offers many other solutions beyond just adding more fiber and laxatives.As a working mom who has little time to spend reading, the thing I love most is that this book is short, concise and straightforward. It gets right to the problem and solutions using language that I (and my kids) actually understand. Dr. Tom has clearly worked with a LOT of kids with different constipation issues and while not every story or recommendation was applicable to my kids, there are enough different ideas that I could tailor them my children’s issues.For example, our now 8-yr old daughter had trouble with constipation that started at age 3 – HUGE, painful poops and going poop in her pants/skid marks. Our pediatrician kept recommending more fiber and liquid. But this didn’t work because she was withholding (I learned this in the book, not from the pediatrician). We adapted the incentive ideas and charts in the book and that worked well for her. Gave the book away a couple years ago to a friend with similar problems.Our second daughter is 4.5 years old and was recently constantly complaining about tummy aches and wouldn’t poop for multiple days in a row (but not soiling her pants). I have been resistant to using laxatives but I feel better about it after rereading the book and especially after discovering the dosage discussion in Chapter 20 (Ch 20 is written for Healthcare Providers but I think it’s one of the most useful chapters in the book). So far so good: no more tummy aches and pooping almost every day.This book isn’t going to instantly cure your kid (sorry!) but it’s a POSITIVE book that offers helpful education and actionable advice.(Other notes: our kids love Softy the Poop -- also a book by Dr. Tom but for kids! Dr. Tom also has a website which I’ve found useful – I haven’t done it but you can request a phone call with him on the site.)

As a collector of swords for over 50 years, and the owner of a sword-making company for the last 20 years, I can attest that the sword itself is a subject of deep complexity and one where the learning curve is both steep and apparently endless.In all of these years collecting and studying books about the sword, I would say that Mr. Edelson's "Cutting with the Medieval Sword" is one of the most important additions to my collection.I have had many discussions with modern day practitioners of traditional swordplay about the need to understand the power and functionality of the sharp sword in order to better understand the techniques they are practicing with blunt weapons.Mr. Edelson's book will be an outstanding reference for those western martial arts practitioners, as wells as providing a wealth of information for collectors of original or replica swords.The study of the sword is an endless journey - but this essential book will take you quickly and far down that road.

I recently finished reading Cutting with the Medieval Sword: Theory and Application, by Mike Edelson. This is a book I have been anxiously awaiting since I heard about it two years ago, and I was not disappointed. There is no sense in learning what to do with a sword until you learn how to do it. Cutting is a foundational skill, and understanding its principles have a direct affect on any technique one may hope to learn. For this reason, this will be the first book I recommend to new students.For those first picking up a sword, or even before, this is a must read. This book lays out complicated principles and complex body mechanics in a simple, easy to understand way; this is a skill that indicates true knowledge in the subject material. The book provides not only the required theoretical background, but also lays a series of drills, in order, to improve your skills. The book covers everything you would want to know when learning to use a sword, including cleaning and care. This is not just a book about swords; It is a how-to guide.For the experienced instructor, Mike's drills make a useful addition to any HEMA class. During his descriptions of drills and principles, he often discusses common mistakes and how to identify them. Understanding and learning to recognize these will make you a better instructor.Makes writing style is no-nonsense and straight to the point. The book is organized in a way that it is easy to read for a few minutes, put it down, and come back later without issue. Though you can read it in a single sitting, it is something you will likely go through multiple times.If I had a single complaint, it is only that it left me wanting more. This is by no means to say that the book was light on content. It is because the book reveals such a strong grasp of the subject within the author that I have become greedy for his wealth of knowledge.In short, this book should be on the shelf of every HEMA practitioner, student or instructor alike, who is serious about learning how to use a sword and forwarding the art.

One of the hardest parts of learning historical fencing, especially if you are not fortunate enough to have a nearby school, is trying to interpret techniques in a way that will have some martial viability. Youtube is full of videos showing people demonstrating questionable techniques they perform without understanding. This book won't make the problem disappear, but perhaps it will help inspire people to more often demonstrate legitimate cutting mechanics in their interpretations.So if you want to be a historical fencer, I would say this is one of the2 books you should have in your library:1. As someone who trained for half a dozen years in Japanese Jujitsu and a few more in Aikido, I know that a significant part of that training was learning how to be an instructor myself. By the time I earned my first belt, I was asked to help students coming up behind me. And by the time I was a brown belt, I was senpai (assistant instructor).But as someone with no formal sword training who, over a number of years, taught himself how to cut with European swords, became the cutting instructor at a large HEMA club, and competes and medals in cutting tournaments, I have sometimes found it difficult to pass on what I have learned. I have felt as though I lacked the vocabulary needed to describe to others what it is that I was doing.Mike Edelson's decades of training in sword arts has given him not only the knowledge of how to use these weapons, but also the knowledge of how to pass on these skills to other people. This book is a valuable resource for the historical martial arts community and to anyone wanting to understand in clear terms the proper ways in which to use medieval swords. As a student, competitor and teacher, I find this book to be of great value and I highly recommend it!
