Review

“A slim volume of terrifying power.” ―The New York Times“Required reading for all humanity.” ―Oprah Winfrey“Wiesel has taken his own anguish and imaginatively metamorphosed it into art.” ―Curt Leviant, Saturday Review“To the best of my knowledge no one . . . has left behind him so moving a record.” ―Alfred Kazin, The Reporter“What makes this book so chilling is not the pretense of what happened but a very real description of every thought, fear and the apathetic attitude demonstrated as a response . . . Night, Wiesel's autobiographical masterpiece, is a heartbreaking memoir. Wiesel has taken his painful memories and channeled them into an amazing document which chronicles his most intense emotions every step along the way.” ―Jose Del Real, Anchorage Daily News“As a human document, Night is almost unbearably painful, and certainly beyond criticism.” ―A. Every human on this planet should read this book! It's not very long but it didn't need to be. It is heart wrenching and infuriating and inspiring and about a million other adjectives I could think of... but that's the kind of feeling we need to experience when we're reading about this type of horror. The real life, actual horror people inflict on one another, sick, twisted, wretched, heartbreaking and utterly disgustingness of what Nazi Germany really did.Elie survived, that in itself is a miracle, that he chose to share that terrible chapter of his life with all of us so that we may learn, that's his gift to us. Don't waste that.It only takes good men to do nothing for evil to prevail. Keep your eyes open, people.

This....I lack words. Mr. Wiesel has woven a tale of such epic proportions, describing in all too vivid detail the horrors of the holocaust. There is a REASON this book ranks up there with The Diary of Anne Frank as one of the definitive works for this subject matter. I was saddened to hear of Mr. Wiesel's passing. When it came time for my son to study the holocaust in school, I decided to add this book to his learning experience. This book captures the gravity of the situation, and explains the horrors, perhaps not adequately, because how could one convey that level of horror to anyone who hasn't lived it, but as well as I think is possible on paper. This is always, ALWAYS my first recommendation when the topic of holocaust literature is broached.

No one should need an excuse to re-read a book as powerful as Night, but if I needed one, the new(er) translation by the author’s wife provided it. Everything that needs to be said about this book has been said, I suppose, many times over. In its brief, straightforward narrative it captures not just the horror of the attempted extermination of Europe’s Jews, but the destruction that was wrought even in the souls of survivors. Amid all the other losses, including members of his family, the loss that persists through the book, is the narrator-author’s loss of faith, the loss of God. The one thing that might have helped make sense of the grotesque insanity was gone, and with it, a large portion of the previously pious young victim’s self and soul. Remarkably (particularly given how pious the narrator was before being herded in cattle cars with so many others to Auschwitz), the complete loss of a sense of God’s justice did not happen over the course of a long incarceration as he struggled to find meaning in the light of faith. The change was immediate, everything was lost in a day, so brutal, so thorough, was the Nazi violation. How could a just God let this happen? There are so many memorable scenes in this short book: the journey in the cramped cattle cars; the arrival at the camp; the sight, sound, and ash of the crematorium; the hanging of a child; the crusts of bread; the forced march when the camp was abandoned at war’s end; the gratuitous murders even in a place where gratuitous murder was organizing principle. And there are so many painful moments, most having to do with loss: the loss of God, the loss of identity, the loss of friends and family, in the end the loss of his father, too, who was his mainstay through most of the ordeal. But there are also moments of remembering that humanity must be preserved. As the camp was being evacuated, the prisoner’s stopped long enough to clean their prison camp. Why? To let the liberating army know “that here lived men and not pigs.” I was reminded of Italian chemist Primo Levi’s account of his imprisonment in Auschwitz, If This Is a Man, in which he describes the ex-army sergeant who washed daily, even though the water was dirty and he had only his soiled clothes to dry himself with. But he did it, and encouraged others to do the same, for the sake of dignity more than cleanliness, to remain human and to prevent the machine of war, imprisonment, and dehumanization from turning prisoners into beasts, as its masters wished it to do.This book is a ringing call to remember, and to resist injustice, ignorance, and apathy. As Wiesel said in his speech accepting the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 (reprinted at the end of this book): “We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere.”

Night, written by Elie Wiesel, is a short book that includes the narrator’s haunting personal experience with concentration camps during the holocaust. It is a necessary read full of true stories about Wiesel’s time in Nazi concentration camps. Forced out of his home as a teenager, Wiesel traveled with his family to Birkenau. He and his father embarked on the deadly and involuntary journey, moving from one death camp to another. Throughout the book, the author provides numerous anecdotes that provide the reader with an image of what these concentration camps were really like. This a mature book, but it is definitely a must read for teenagers and adults. The ideas may be a too strong for children or pre-teens. It is poignant and graphic, but gets a clear message across. If you’re looking for short read and have interest in the holocaust and the victims who suffered through it, this is the book for you. I suggest you read through the preface and the forward in the beginning of the book, as well as the author’s note at the end. All in all, this is a great book that will provide you with both information and a saddening perspective of World War II.

This is the true experience of Elie as a teenager with his dad trying to keep his father alive while surviving the holocaust. It gives you an inside view of the concentration camps and what millions of Jews experienced every day that they got to live. It is raw at times because it exposes what Elie saw with his own eyes, and the impact that it had on his thoughts and emotions at the moment.

I liked this book. I will not say I loved this book because the subject is too awful to be real. Reading this story I felt like that young boy asking "... Is this a dream..." It's hard for me, an infant of the 70's, a child of the 80's, a teen of the 90's, to believe that these atrocities ever occurred. I remember reading in history that Churchill/ Patton? (please correct me if I'm wrong) wanted pictures taken "... Because someday, there will be those who'll say 'this never happened'."I feel for the survivors, their families. I worry for my children who will learn that great men like this author are less than current winners of this prestigious award. It is up to us, the third generation, the generation that makes or erases history, "to look into that young Jews eyes and say ... That we are not forgetting [them]. When their voices are stifled, we will lend them ours"Here is my testimony in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

The book is proving to be very helpful in learning how to get the most out of my Cricut. There are tips in here I might never have discovered had it not been for this book. I highly recommend it to anyone who owns a Cricut.

I was really disappointed with this book. It has no pictures at all and the text is pretty dry and uninteresting. I don't feel like I learned anything. And the suggestions to make money aren't anything new either.

Great book! It shares other resources available, and very useful information about settings required for a variety of materials. I like it.

Was not happy with book. Thought it was about the cricut and it was about the old ones. Said nothing about the cricut maker.

This is simple bland text of the very basics of the machine. There are no visuals of project ideas or design space screenshots. There is nothing in this that you can’t get out of the machine instruction manual or your local craft store ideas board.

Great book. I could not put this book down. He is a creative writer. Expecting new edition in future. Thanks for publishing this book.

Excellent book! Love it! Highly recommended!

The Voice of Reason WearsSpongeBob Underpants In the book of life, the answers are not in the back.Charlie Brown'Oh, my child will never behave like that in public,' I remember smugly telling a friend over lunch one day. 'I simply won't allow it.' Seven months pregnant with my first baby, I watched in horror as a preschool-aged girl screamed, kicked, and flailed while her humiliated mother tried to drag her away from the play area and out the door.'I tell you, I'll never let a three-year-old run my life!' I smirked as we got back to our discussion of nursery themes.Looking back, I seemed to have all the answers regarding child rearing before I ever had one of my own: when and what they should eat, the proper cartoons to watch, which toys they should be playing with, the best way to potty-train. If it concerned children, this expectant mother had an opinion about all the 'right' ways to do things, and shame on anyone who disagreed! So sure was I that badly behaved children were the direct result of bad parenting that nothing short of a whack over the head could have convinced me otherwise. And, as karma would have it, that whack occurred late one night in June 2003 in the form of a four-pound, nine-ounce screeching baby boy.Difficult from the beginning, little Antoine was determined to put our fledgling parenting skills to the test. I was committed to nursing him, but he refused to latch on. Gastrointestinal problems meant that the milk I spent so much time pumping almost always came back up. He screamed, sometimes for hours on end, for no apparent reason. He stared, not at us, but at a bright light on the ceiling. And the child never ever slept, which meant, of course, that neither did we.As time went on, his behavior became even more challenging, and sometime around his first birthday we stopped taking him to public places altogether unless we simply had no other choice. His unpredictability and his 'nuclear meltdowns' in the supermarket, for example, more often than not had me terrified that one of my fellow shoppers would summon the police.Gone were the days of enjoying restaurant meals as a family, as even a fast-food experience with Antoine was likely to deteriorate into a chaotic scene. In fact, a trip outside our home for any reason typically meant enduring finger-pointing, cold stares, and rude comments from perfect strangers as Antoine, oblivious to his surroundings, carried on as though he were being prodded with hot pokers.'Can't you control your child?' 'Ma'am, if he doesn't quiet down, I'm going to have to ask you to leave,' 'Spoiled brat,' or 'Give him to me for a few days, I'll straighten him out!' came my way so often that I began to categorize my days by the number of insults I received from people who knew absolutely nothing about me or my child.Worst of all was the 'advice' we received from friends and family whenever we attempted to voice our concerns that something wasn't quite right with our little boy. Some tried to reassure us, claiming that perhaps the 'terrible twos' had set in a bit early, that tantrums were normal, and that he'd settle down once he got older. 'He's just all boy,' some said. Others gently pointed out that he would behave better if we could simply learn to show him 'who's boss,' while still others were competitive: 'Oh, you think he's bad, you should see my Brian.'How on Earth could we possibly explain what it was like to live with this whirling dervish, this Tasmanian devil of a boy to people who clearly thought that children came in a one-size-fits-all model? And who was to say that they weren't right? As first-time parents, what did we know? After all, no one had ever told us that raising kids was easy. What we did know was that the level of stress in our household (already at an incomprehensible high from trying to meet the day-to-day needs of a child who alternated between ramming his head into the armoire and spending hours at a time lining his toy cars into neat little rows) was made even higher by the large amount of seemingly thoughtless commentary we received, no matter which way we turned. Indeed, it was commentary of the very type I had made myself once upon a time. When Antoine's diagnosis of autism was eventually confirmed, we—like most parents confronted with the disorder—were devastated. At the same time, the sense of relief was profound. Knowing that there was a reason behind our child's erratic behavior and that we weren't crazy after all gave us the strength to go on when it seemed like our whole world was falling apart. These days, Antoine has more good days than bad. At three and a half, he is the light of my life and has taught me more about myself than I could have imagined possible. He still does not make transitions well, and, though fewer and farther between, his meltdowns can still be considered 'nuclear' by anyone's standards. That much has not changed. What has changed is my own ability to empathize, to put myself into the shoes of another. Never again will I be so quick to make judgments. These days, thanks to knowing and loving my amazing little boy, if I say anything at all, it is this: How can I help? Shari Youngblood ©2007. Shari Youngblood. All rights reserved. Very sweet little book. I bought this as a secret santa gift for a friend. We're all studying to be speech paths, so I thought this was really fitting. She loved it, and I totally want a copy for myself now! Definitely a great buy for special ed teachers, parents with special needs kids, any sort of therapist, or just anyone that loves kids in general. Very moving and some are quite funny/cute.

Wonderful book! I love that the beginning starts with the story Welcome to Holland. I have a daughter with special needs and reading Welcome to Holland expresses what having a child with special needs can be like. My daughter is such a beautiful blessing to our family and a spot of sunshine to all who meet her. You could be having the worst day and a smile from her will turn you around. You can't help but smile back.I would recommend this to anyone who has a child with special needs no matter what the age. It will inspire you. To any one who knows someone,is friends with someone, loves someone or cares for someone with special needs you will be inspired and touched reading the wonderful stories.

I got this book for my best friend who is a special education teacher and after I received it, I skimmed through some of it and became enthralled in reading it. The stories were so inspirational and offered a glimpse into the world of children with special needs and their families and also offers hope to them and lets them know there are others who deal with the same challenges and celebrations. As someone without firsthand experiences with special needs children, I was very moved and inspired. This is a wonderful book!

I have a child with Septo Optic Dysplasia and at times you feel overwhelmed, alone, sad, mad, frustrated, happy, fearful the list of emotions goes on and on! This book made me laugh and cry. It also made me feel like it's ok to feel sad sometimes and that all parents with special needs children go through this. This book also shows the joy of having a special child. Another book I would recommend is Raising the spirited Child.

To be honest, I ordered this book because I was an invited reviewer when the stories were being selected. I had always wondered if our names were included at the end; they are not. That's OK, though - the book targets a diverse audience with its typical stories of humor, love, courage, sadness, and victory. Kids, family members, educators, and assorted care-givers with intriguing, refreshing insights into amazing situations make this book another winner.

The stories in this book reminded me of so many people that I've known in my years of supporting people with developmental disabilities. There is no pity here. There is so much joy in the little things that become big things. These are the people who don't let their disabilities define them, and who don't let their diagnoses limit them. I thoroughly enjoyed their stories.

This book is so encouraging and offers just the right thing at just the right time, it seems. I like to pull it out when I'm having a down day and it always brightens my mood. It does have some of the same stories as "A Special Kind of Love," so that was kind of repetitive.

A warm and genuine compilation of inspiring stories from those that have walked the walk...sure to bring a smile to anyone who has worked with children with disabilities, and a tear to those who are just starting on this journey. The Bubel/Aiken Foundation receives a share of the proceeds from this book~what's not to like?

No science. No studies. No credentials given. This book presents one guy’s story of the dozens and dozens of things he tried that he believed worked for him. Without a shred a credibility, he pontificates, with absolutely astounding hutzpah, about what is universally good and what is universally bad for absolutely everyone with PF, as if he is the world’s leading expert. Even if he instead pitched this story as if it were the story of what worked for him (which would be a VERY different book), it would be claptrap. He’s tried so many therapies with so many, many, many variables at work with each attempt, how could he possibly know which ones caused improvement and which ones didn’t? It looks like a self-published book, down to embarrassing grammatical errors such as saying one type of therapist is “better then” another. Don’t waste your money. You’ll get advice that is just as credible by searching for PF remedies on the internet.

Pain in the feet is not fun. After a year of pain and sitting in podiatrist office following their guidelines I️ researched on the internet and ran across this young man. Being so young I️ thought he has not lived long enough to have the answers but after reading his story and following his advice after one day I️ got up without pain first thing in morning. By all means I️ know I️ have many more days of treatment to go of getting rid of trigger points and massage and stretch but it sure feels good to know I️ will be able to walk again pain free.

If you really want PF help, spend $ on this book by William Errol Prowse. It is amazingly insightful. I now tape my feet & am seeing a therapist who specializes in ART (active release technique) massage therapy, as he suggests. She has helped me more in two sessions than the physical therapists who I've seen for MANY visits, all w/o relief. Be careful about releasing trigger points, as you can over do it. My therapist has helped guide me. Much better than when I started in my own & bruised myself all over! I've just started his dietary suggestions, so I can't comment on that.Best of luck!

First of all, I have suffered from Plantar Fasciitis for over 2 years now and anyone else out there who has it, knows what a complete drag it is. I have spent so much money on this issue, it's ridiculous - it takes over your entire life. I started watching you tube videos in my spare time of plantar fasciitis looking for answers because I was so desperate (this is one of the many fun past times when you suffer from this issue is you watch videos on how to help your aching feet). I came across William Errol Prowse and he looked all of 23 years old and I was like who is this guy?? And how does he know so much about this nightmare of a problem?? He makes so much sense in his videos and I learned more from his videos than I have in visiting doctors, chiropractors and PT's. And I've seen them all. Anyways, I just got the book and it's great in detail. Pictures are good. He spells everything out in good detail. Shows how to massage tight areas (EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED) and how to use common household items as massage tools. Massage is key for this issue, I've always suspected that and he just drove that point home. I am impressed and very grateful. I don't see my issue going away overnight, but I feel with further reading and discipline in paying attention to things, it may continue to improve. Self education for this issue is key. You have to find what helps you. Thank you William for your valuable information and for sharing it with the rest of us suffering with this painful issue! You're amazing....keep up the great work!

I want to thank Mr. Prowse for writing this book. He is not selling anything and is encouraging people to be their own therapist which is the best advice for me. I have tried some of his methods and after a week, I am noticing a slight difference. I was seeing a physical therapist twice week for 3 weeks with relief for about a day - then it was back to pain. When I got the book, I read it from cover to cover and then began highlighting and then began finding my trigger points - that the key, along with the right diet. The foods that are in the book are on my shopping list as staples now. I have recommended his book to my friends who are as frustrated with this condition as I am. This book gave me hope and I am so grateful to have found it. Thank you so much for writing this, along with Dr. Rosen!! I am now confident I will eventually be able to hike again and like the book says "Don't push it", "Keep the foot moving" and "Stay positive"!

I (literally) stumbled on William's U-tube site. Skeptically watch a few videos. (Who is this...dude?) Then realized he knew what he was talking about. The book really puts all the pieces of the puzzle together. I struggled with triggers in my calves for a few years and cycled through partial recovery and re-injury when runnning. Achilles problems and ~7 months ago into classic heal-pain. Been doing the calf rolling, balls and scraping for a month and things are improving., It will take some consistent work but I now have a plan to fix it. Thanks William!

The instructions in this book made a huge difference in my plantar fasciitis in only a couple of weeks. This kid really knows what he is talking about. If you are suffering from heal pain, you should give this book a chance.

Clear and simple explanations. The recommended process is sensible, but probably almost impossible for busy people who have to sit for long hours. Still, its nice to know that there is at least one solution out there that makes sense. It would be wonderful if Mr. Prowse described a grossly simplified process - the minimum viable diet and exercise rules - in a visual, easily digestible form. I suspect that a half dozen rules for diet, and a half dozen for other treatment, would work for most people with PF. After reading this book, the average office employee is left feeling a bit intimidated.
