HAROLD KERZNER, Ph.D., Senior Executive Director with International Institute of Learning (IIL), is currently Professor of Systems Management at Baldwin-Wallace College in Ohio and President of Project Management Associates, Inc., a consulting and training firm that conducts seminars for leading U.S. and international corporations. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Illinois and the 1998 Distinguished Service Award from Utah State University, where he taught engineering and business administration, respectively. The Northeast Ohio Chapter of the Project Management Institute has honored Dr. Kerzner by instituting the Kerzner Award for Project Management Excellence.

This book is in serious need of a better design. The information contained therein is invaluable and Kerzner is revered in the field of PM. It is extremely boring to look at even though the information is engaging and well-developed. The book isn't even properly divided into discernible chapters with proper headings/headnotes/footnotes/runners/titles/page numbers. The index in the back is horrible. Good luck being able to find a particular Figure or Table on demand without having to always refer to the Table of Contents. I can't tell you how awful this book looks.This edition of the book is 10 years old and in desperate need of an update. Kerzner talks a lot about communication and the importance of communication in modern business; however, this book hasn't been updated since every human on the planet put a smartphone in his pocket. A lot has changed in the field of instantaneous, global communication practices since 2005.I learned more from this book and the two associated graduate-level courses which required its use than I did from all the other courses that semester combined.The beauty of this book and Kerzner's PMMM (now called KPM3, I think) is that he focuses as much (or more) on the satisfaction of the labor force/worker, as he does on big, shrewd, miserly, heartless, faceless American businesses. Any time an industry expert believes workers are more than cattle, I support his ideas. That mindset is not nearly as common as you might think.
This is a great text for any PM professional to learn how to continually improve upon your PMO's guidelines and processes. I needed this textbook to complete a course for my MBA specialty. A coworker of mine knew Kerzner's work and borrowed my printed textbook; I left it with her since I owned the Amazon Kindle version for PC of this same text.Good and useful text for PM professionals.
This was one of my 9 textbooks for a graduate Advanced Project Management course at Florida State University. It was the only book that I have read on the Project Management Maturity Model. That aside, it is laid out well, is easy to understand, and is small and compact enough to take with you. I have read this through once and have it out on my desk as a continual reference. I am working to create a PMO at my office and this book is a helpful resource.
