Reverend Carrigou-Lagrange's analysis seems to revolve around the concept of Mary's predestination to the divine maternity, fullness of glory and grace. He explains the importance of Mary in God's plan to save humanity through His son Jesus Christ. Reverend Carrigou-Lagrange discusses how Mary's infallible submission to God's will is an unfailing source of virtues such faith, hope, and humility. He discusses how Mary's role as the mother of the redeemer and mother of all men justifies her title of universal queen. He relies on scriptures to explain the significance of the prayers embedded in the rosary.The structure of sentences in the book and the English translation from the original version makes it difficult to read at times. The book is mainly intended for theologians.
This book is a masterpiece about Our Lady, from one of the great theologians in Church history. fr. Lagrange shows how God chose Mary to the worthy Mother of God--far holier than all the other saints collectively--and to be associated with Jesus Christ in the redemption of each one of her children. Aeterna Press's edition does contain more typos than what is normal in books, but one can't beat the price. I am very satisfied.
I have not finished the book yet. Elegant, clear writing. This 20th century theologian communicates ideas and doctrines clearly but his focus is not abstract. Rather it is on how tbese ideas are relevant to our life. However, no preaching.
Without deviant theological concepts that disguise modernist agendas, Reverend Garrigou-Lagrange clearly explains the Catholic dogma of Mary the mother of the Savior and why she is and should be held in such high esteem.
Wonderful logical explanation for the reasons for honoring our Immaculate mother. It puts to bed the anxiety many people have in praying to Mary, seeking her intersession. It explains through the hierarchy of the Devine, the Hypostatic Union, and full of grace and just what these mean and what they require. Once these explanations are logically set out, then what the repercussions must be. It answers the question when asked of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Who is Mary to You and what are you doing about it ?
I downloaded this & several other books & on the kindle fire they won't paginate or keep a bookmark! It's a real pain to have to search for the last page all the time! None of the books I got recently, work on the "fire" correctly & they don't work w/audio either! They were, I suspect; made for the NEW KINDLE & will work fine with that!?!? BUT, the don't work well with MY K Fire! (wish THAT fact was "advertized"!
If you love our Blessed Mother you should really read this book. Lovely insights about how close our Lord is to his Mother and how we can become closer too!
Fr. Garrigou-Lagrange was one of the last great Thomists of the Strict Observance and is somewhat neglected today. On the plus side, he taught the future John Paul II theology, on the minus he made life difficult for newer theologians like Henri de Lubac who wanted to think outside the Thomistic box. All that said, he is a great teacher and spiritual writer. All his books are worth reading. This one will deepen both your theological understanding of the Mother of God and your spiritual life. Highly recommended.
